Leading Through the Chaos
Present day American culture. Division, distrust, disinformation, and violence are hitting new highs while empathy and hope feel like they’re on life support. So what do we actually need right now?
Not louder leaders.
Not ‘owning enemies’ on social media.
Not more band-aids on bullet wounds.
I’d suggest something called Future-Present Leadership.
This is leadership that isn’t stuck reacting to every crisis or clinging to a past that doesn’t serve the best of us anymore. Future-Present Leaders live from the future—they see what could be . . . and then act like it’s already real. They bring tomorrow’s healing, courage, peace and prosperity for ALL into today’s chaos.
This kind of intelligent leadership does not deny the mess—they live and discern truth in a present world of disinformation. They can remain present but detached from the anxieties of today. They are hope-bearers so they make intentional choices to invest their energy in a preferred vision for the future rather than drowning in today’s despair or reacting in the current rage.
In a time when everyone’s shouting, these kinds of leaders are listening.
When everything feels binary, they hold onto nuance and complexity in challenging conversations.
When violence tempts us to react with hate, they model strength, mercy and justice . . for ALL of us.
The future’s not out there.
It’s here.
And we’re already in it.
Let’s lead to a future that is a Good Life for ALL of us.
